Choose the right approach for your deck

We also look at the construction you already have before discussing resurfacing or rebuilding. Your project manager helps you compare the work, material choices and upkeep, so the proposal reflects both your priorities and the repairs the deck needs.
A new walking surface, a structural repair and a full rebuild are different projects. Understanding the existing frame and how you want to use the space helps narrow the right approach.
Resurface, repair or rebuild?
Resurfacing replaces walking surfaces while retaining suitable underlying construction. It starts with a review of the existing supports, frame, connections and condition—not simply the boards. Localized repairs may make sense for an otherwise suitable assembly. Extensive deterioration or a substantially different layout may call for rebuilding.
Trex decks and composite decking
Wood and Trex composite decking offer different appearances and care expectations. Composite selection also affects installation details: framing spacing, board layout and fastening must follow the chosen product’s requirements. New boards do not correct unsuitable framing. Consider the maintenance you want to take on as well as the initial look.
Layout, stairs and railings
Sketch how people will move between doors, seating and the yard. Stairs, landings and railing posts need to be planned with the deck structure. A picture-frame border, built-in feature or change in board direction can affect support details. Tell RGR early if a future porch roof or other addition is part of your plans.

Electrical work can include lighting, ceiling fans and outlets. For a fully enclosed porch, RGR can also include heating and air conditioning, with the enclosure and equipment planned together and the included work defined in your proposal.
