Roofing & General Construction FAQs
Practical answers about roof repairs, remodeling, estimates, and what to expect when you work with RGR.
Roofing
Repair decisions, replacement planning, and life during the work.
Can my roof be repaired instead of replaced?
Often, a localized problem can be repaired if the surrounding roof is still serviceable. The leak source, overall condition, and previous repairs determine whether a focused repair makes sense.
How long will my roof replacement take?
Roof size, complexity, weather, access, and decking repairs all affect the schedule. RGR discusses the expected timing for your scope and communicates when conditions change it.
Can I stay in my home during a roof replacement?
Discuss your household’s needs before scheduling. Roofing can be noisy and requires clear work areas; access, pets, sensitive belongings, and any related interior work should be planned with your project contact.
What happens if you find rotten wood under the shingles?
Newly exposed damage needs to be documented and reviewed. Work outside the original scope may affect the price and schedule; your project contact will explain the proposed repair through the change process in your agreement.
What should I compare between roofing estimates?
Compare the complete roof system, tear-off and disposal, flashing, ventilation, decking allowances, and warranty options. The lowest total may cover different work. See the RGR roofing process.
Will salt air damage a metal roof?
Coastal exposure affects material selection. The metal, finish, fasteners, and flashing need to be compatible with the site and each other; no metal roofing system is automatically corrosion-proof.
Can you work on the roof while my business stays open?
Occupancy and roof access need to be planned around the work. Share operating hours, tenant needs, entrances, and sensitive equipment so RGR can discuss the sequence and likely disruption before scheduling.
What should I send you about an active leak?
Send the address, when the leak started, where it appears, and photos taken safely from inside or the ground. Keep away from damaged ceilings and electrical hazards, and do not climb onto the roof to collect photos.
FORTIFIED Roofing
Plan the work, evaluation, and documentation before installation.
Is a FORTIFIED roof different from a regular roof replacement?
Yes. It includes program-specific roof-system details and documented verification. New shingles alone do not establish a FORTIFIED designation.
Do I need to decide on FORTIFIED before the roof is installed?
Yes. Discuss the goal during planning so the required work, evaluator, and documentation can be coordinated. Some details must be verified before later work covers them.
Can my existing home qualify for a FORTIFIED roof?
Possibly. The existing construction and proposed work must be reviewed against the applicable requirements. A contractor and independent evaluator can identify what your property needs.
Who gives me the FORTIFIED certificate?
IBHS issues the designation after reviewing the required documentation, and the evaluator delivers the certificate. RGR performs the agreed construction work and does not award the designation.
Will FORTIFIED lower my insurance bill or qualify me for a grant?
Benefits are not automatic. Ask your insurer and the relevant grant program about your property’s eligibility, required approvals, and documentation before committing to the work.
Can I finance the cost that a grant does not cover?
Financing may be available for eligible projects through third-party providers. Approval and terms depend on the provider and applicant. Review financing options before deciding how to pay.
Warranties
Understand which coverage applies and where to start with a concern.
How long is RGR’s workmanship warranty?
Qualifying work performed by RGR carries a 5-year workmanship warranty, subject to your signed agreement and applicable terms, limitations, and exclusions. Coverage relates to covered work RGR actually performed; review our warranty details for more information.
Is the manufacturer warranty separate from workmanship coverage?
Applicable roofing materials carry a limited lifetime manufacturer warranty, subject to manufacturer terms, eligibility, limitations, and exclusions. Manufacturer protection generally concerns covered product defects and is separate from RGR’s workmanship coverage.
Will my roof automatically have an extended manufacturer warranty?
Enhanced manufacturer options, including CertainTeed SureStart PLUS for qualifying systems, may be available. Eligibility depends on products, installation, contractor requirements, registration, and other program terms; confirm your proposed coverage with RGR and review the warranty information.
Could storm damage or later alterations affect coverage?
Storm damage, maintenance issues, pre-existing conditions, third-party changes, and work outside RGR’s scope can affect which coverage applies. The cause of the concern and the applicable agreement and warranty documents determine the next steps.
Who should I contact about a problem after the job?
Contact RGR with the property address, project information, a description of the concern, and any available photos. The team can review the issue and relevant documents; send a warranty question or call 910-408-6026.
Estimates & Payments
Know what is included, what can change, and how to plan payment.
Is the estimate free?
Yes. Request a free estimate for your roofing or construction project. Share the property address, the work you have in mind, and any photos that help explain the concern.
What affects the price of my project?
The size and complexity of the work, materials, access, and existing conditions all affect the price. Compare written estimates by what is included, including preparation, disposal, allowances, and any excluded repairs.
Can I pay by card, bank transfer, or check?
RGR accepts Visa, Mastercard, ACH / bank transfer, and checks. Confirm payment arrangements for your project with the team and refer to your agreement for the applicable schedule.
Can I pay for my project over time?
Financing may be available for eligible projects through third-party providers. Approval and terms depend on the provider and applicant. Review financing options before deciding how to pay.
Could the price change once work starts?
Yes. Hidden water damage, structural deterioration, damaged decking, code-related work, material changes, or customer-requested scope changes may affect the cost. RGR reviews newly identified work and the proposed change with you as the scope is clarified.
Why can damaged roof decking add to the price?
Roofing quotes assume adequate roof structure and sheathing already exist. Some decking conditions become visible only after roofing is removed; repair or replacement requires additional materials and labor, so additional charges may apply.
How will I approve a change to the work?
Changes should identify the revised scope, cost, and any schedule effect so you understand what is being proposed. Review the change with your RGR contact and follow the approval process in your signed agreement before proceeding with additional work.
General Construction
Planning additions, remodeling, decks, and repairs to the existing building.
Can you manage roofing and remodeling as one project?
Related work can be reviewed together. The proposal should identify the included trades, connections to existing construction, and how the work will be sequenced.
Do I need drawings before contacting you?
You can start by sharing your goals, address, and any existing plans. The team can discuss what design information or additional investigation is needed before a construction scope is finalized.
Who handles permits and inspections?
Permit and inspection requirements depend on the work and the property’s jurisdiction. Confirm who will obtain approvals and arrange inspections when the scope is prepared; share any HOA requirements before work is scheduled.
Can I remove a wall to open up a room?
The wall’s structural role and any utilities inside it need to be assessed first. Some changes require design or engineering before the construction scope can be prepared.
Can my existing deck be repaired instead of rebuilt?
It depends on the condition of the framing, supports, connections, and walking surface. Replacing deck boards alone may not address structural deterioration underneath.
Can my open porch be enclosed?
Possibly. The existing foundation, framing, roof, and intended use need review before an enclosure is designed. An enclosure may require more than adding screens or windows.
Should the leak be fixed before the damaged ceiling or wall?
Yes. The moisture source should be identified and addressed before affected finishes are restored. Roof, wall, plumbing, or HVAC conditions may require different specialists.
Can you help rebuild after a fire or storm?
RGR can review related roofing, structural, exterior, and interior construction needs. The property must be safe to access, and the proposal will identify included repairs and any separate specialist work. Your insurer determines coverage.
Service Areas
Find out what to share about your location and property.
Do you work in my county?
RGR serves New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, and Onslow counties from Wilmington. Share your exact property address and the work you need so the team can discuss coverage.
What if my neighborhood is not listed?
Send the full address with your project request. The location directory is a starting point; the team can review your specific location and proposed work.
Can I request roofing and construction work at the same property?
Yes. Related roofing, remodeling, additions, structural repairs, and exterior repairs can be discussed together. Each proposal defines the included work.
Do I need to choose a service before contacting you?
No. Describe the problem or improvement you want reviewed. RGR can help identify the appropriate assessment for your property.
What should an owner who lives elsewhere provide?
Share the property address, a local access contact, occupancy or rental dates, and your priorities. Existing photos and repair records can help explain the work.
Working With RGR
Preparing for the first conversation and the work that follows.
What should I have ready before requesting an estimate?
Share the property address, the work you have in mind, any known damage, and your preferred timing. Photos taken from the ground or inside, previous repair records, and existing plans can help us understand the project.
What happens after I send the form?
The team reviews the inquiry and follows up to clarify the project and next step. Scheduling depends on the location, scope, and availability; the form is not a confirmed appointment.
Who will be my contact during the project?
An RGR project manager oversees the approved work and helps coordinate scheduling, materials, crews, and communication. Confirm your project contact and preferred communication method as the schedule is established.
Can I stay in the property during construction?
That depends on the work and the areas affected. Discuss access, noise, dust, pets, and any loss of essential rooms or utilities before scheduling so you can plan around the construction.
Will I receive photos or other project records?
RGR uses project photography and field documentation to record relevant stages and completed work. Agree on the records needed for your project when defining the scope; available documentation varies with the work.
Will RGR crews or trade partners do the work?
Staffing depends on the scope and trades involved. Ask which work will be performed by RGR crews or trade partners and who will coordinate those responsibilities on your project.
What should I ask before signing an estimate?
Confirm the included work, materials, allowances, exclusions, payment terms, warranty documents, and process for changes. Raise questions about access, occupancy, and timing before the work is scheduled.
