Start with what is beneath the shingles
The presentation begins with removing the existing roofing so the deck can be inspected. Its photographs show both an exposed deck and damaged wood. This is an important part of understanding a replacement: new shingles do not repair a deteriorated surface underneath them.
Before your project starts, ask how the crew will document concealed damage and how necessary decking repairs will be explained and priced. Having that conversation early helps you understand a finding that may only become visible after tear-off.
The guide then moves through water protection and synthetic underlayment. These layers have different roles. Ask which products are included in your proposal and where additional protection will be installed, especially around valleys, penetrations, and wall intersections.
Look closely at the roof edges and installation details
Drip edge, starter strip, and shingle attachment occupy less space in a sales conversation than shingle style, but they are part of the roof system. The guide includes photographs and explanations to help you recognize these components and ask more specific questions about the work.
RGR’s documented process describes fully adhered starter, careful shingle fastening, and attention to corrosion resistance near saltwater. Your roof’s selected materials, assembly, and exposure determine the applicable installation requirements. A written scope should connect those requirements to the products being installed.
Ventilation also belongs in that discussion. The presentation shows a rigid ridge vent, but the appropriate approach depends on the home’s roof and attic configuration. Ask how intake, exhaust, and the existing assembly will be evaluated together.
Understand the separate FORTIFIED option
The PDF compares RGR’s standard 5-Star process with its described FORTIFIED option. Treat those comparisons as a starting point for discussing an upgrade. A standard roof replacement should not be assumed to include every enhanced detail shown in the presentation.
